How Fast Dementia is Growing?

It is estimated that in Australia, the number of people with dementia may grow to around 400,000 cases by 2020 and 900,000 cases by 2050 (Source: AIHW.gov.au). The cost of dementia in Australia in 2016 was $14.25 billion, which equated to an average cost of $35,550 per person with dementia.
Early diagnosis combined with new treatment modalities can significantly reduce the incidence of dementia, such that only 5% reduction in the number of people with dementia over the age of 65 could lead to a savings of $5.7 billion from 2016-2025, and a staggering saving of $120.4 billion by 2056 (Source: fightdementia.org.au), which would confer savings in aged care, hospitalisations and service delivery.

Alzheimer’s and Exercise!

T here are ample scientific evidences that physical activity could enhance cognitive function and reduce Alzheimer’s risk. Exercise appears to improve brain blood flow, brain metabolism and cognitive function and to prevent Alzheimer’s via treatment of cardiovascular risk factors.
Despite beneficial effects of physical activity for dementia, exercise may be challenging because of psychological reluctance, advancing age, frailty and disability. However, several studies have suggested that the frailty status might be reversible with the implementation of specific exercises programs.

EID Technology

P hysical exercise could slow down the progression of dementia. MedroTech has proudly designed a state-of-the-art to emulate physical activity for people unwilling or unable to do exercise.
At MedroTech, we have developed a breakthrough technology intended to emulate physical activity. This technology is in form of a non-invasive, portable, and fully automated device, called EID (Exercise in Device), that allows exercise to be given with a "device" at home for long periods of time.
